Halloween Special: WHS's Black And Orange (Pets) Promotion

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA) - In the spirit of Halloween, the Washington Humane Society hopes you'll consider adding some touches of orange and black to your home - orange and black pets, that is.

The special promotion waives adoption fees on all black and orange animals adopted from Oct. 25 to Oct. 30.

If you've ever thought about bringing an orange cat, like Charlie, pictured,  you'll be in for good luck, because orange felines, called ginger cats in many parts of the world, are known for bringing good fortune to their humans. Orange-coated dogs offer a bright spot of golden color that lifts spirits during shorter days that grow dark and gray.

Because of unfounded and cliched superstitions, and ill-informed fears, black cats and black dogs are often the last to be adopted, as potential pet parents steer away from them. But in truth, black cats, which were revered for their rarity and wisdom in ancient Egypt, are sleek and happy felines whose 'basic black' coats are right in any season. And black dogs like Jenson, pictured, offer extra doses of loyalty and bravery.

All adoptions include spay or neuter, applicable vaccinations, microchipping, deworming, heartworm testing (dogs), and FIV/FeLV test (cats, over six months old). No tricks, this is a real treat for those who have been planning to adopt.

For more information on adoptions and available animals, visit www.washhumane.org or call your nearest adoption center. The WHS adoption centers are located at 7319 Georgia Avenue, NW
(202-723-5730) and 1201 New York Avenue, NE (202-576-6664).
