Scofflaws who owe the District of Columbia delinquent taxes have until midnight tonight, Thursday, September 30, to clear the slate and take advantage of the tax amnesty which waives collection fees, penalties and fear of prosecution.
“If you have outstanding taxes with the District, this is your last chance to pay them without penalties and fees,” warned Stephen M. Cordi, deputy chief financial officer for the District’s Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR). “The last District amnesty was held in 1995, so it is likely to be some time before there is another opportunity.”
Employed individual tax debtors who do not take advantage of the amnesty should expect that additional money will be withheld from their paychecks beginning January 2011.
