Five Engineers Join The Elite for Electromagnetic Railgun Advancements

One of the Navy's most prestigious achievement awards was recently given to five members of the Office of Naval Research's Electromagnetic Railgun technology team during a Pentagon ceremony.

The team was honored with the 2011 Dr. Delores M. Etter Top Scientists and Engineers of the Year Award with their hard work in advancing EM Railgun launcher technology, which is a weapons system that fires projectiles using electricity instead of chemical propellants.

"We've assembled a highly dedicated and talented team of engineers who have made extraordinary achievements," said The Office of Naval Research's, Roger McGinnis. "The EM Railgun provides the Navy with greater steel-on-target accuracy and firepower, but importantly, also affords our warfighters and vessels with improved protections and multi-mission capabilities."

Congrats to all the engineers and scientists who are paving the way for our future and advancing our weapons technology at home and abroad.
