Washington, DC – March 11, 2011 – On Friday, March 11, 2011, United Medical Center and the Josh Howard Foundation will host a “Rally for Kids Health,” a Pep Rally and Health Fair promoting nutrition and physical fitness, at THEARC and Boys and Girls Club Gymnasium, 1901 Mississippi Avenue, SE from 5 – 8:00 p.m..  The event is expected to attract over 500 children of the community.  The pep rally will be hosted by WPGC’s Shack-in-the-Pack with appearances by Ballou High School Band, Washington Wizard’s Josh Howard and Trevor Booker and Chef Roc the Season 3 Winner of Hell’s Kitchen.  During the health fair, participants will receive free food, games, prizes, live cooking demonstrations, hands-on cooking experience, health screenings, and free immunizations. 

 

United Medical Center is the only hospital east of the Anacostia River, providing care to over 140,000 residents of the Wards 7 & 8 communities.  In addition, Wards 7 & 8 combined serves as the home to 40% of the children population in Washington, DC.  This event will highlight the importance of nutrition and physical fitness amongst youth in an effort to combat childhood diseases and fatalities.
