Craft Beer & Dinner Cruise This Sunday

What do you have planned for Sunday, August 12? If you’re lucky, you will be consuming comfort food and unlimited beer while cruising on a yacht at sunset for the 3rd Annual Craft Beer & Dinner Cruise.

To celebrate D.C. Beer Week, which starts this Sunday, the luxurious Odyssey yacht will set sail at 6 p.m., and tickets are now available

Guests will enjoy a 3-hour cruise along the Potomac with dinner, a DJ and unlimited tastings of more than 40 of your favorite craft beers from across the U.S. and around the world.

Award-Winning Magician Performs In D.C. This August

Washingtonian’s are in for a real treat this August as Josh Norris, the magician named D.C.’s Best Performing Artist” by Washington City Paper is hosting a 90-minute magic show at Helix Lounge in D.C.

Beginning Friday, August 10, Norris will combine magic, psychology, and hypnosis, with a human lie detector where he is certain he can decode the thoughts of audience members in THINK: An Evening of Mind Reading and Magic.

All guests can arrive early to enjoy extended Happy Hour specials at Kimpton’s Hotel Helix, located at 1430 Rhode Island Avenue in Northwest, D.C., as well as discounted $4 Magic Hat beers, and an $8 “Magic Martini” featuring gin, peach liqueur, orange juice, grenadine and a champagne float.

A complimentary champagne toast will be provided to guests during the show.

To help kids get ready for the back to school grind, JCPenney’s is offering free haircuts for students in grades kindergarten to sixth grade the whole month of August.

Customers can call 855-JCP-KIDS or stop by a local salon to schedule a free August appointment while they last.

Today, if you schedule a haircut, JCPenney’s will donate $1 for every free cut to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and 4-H.

Southern Rock Concert Series Comes to D.C. This Friday

Check out a free, electrifying concert featuring alternative country rockers at the Navy Yard Fairgrounds this Friday from 4-10 p.m.

Local country and southern rock bands will play all day at “South on South Capitol” with food trucks, cold drinks, corn hole and other games.

Listen to live music, hang outside, and have some fun at the Navy Yard Fairgrounds located at 1299 Half Street, SE across from the Centerfield Gate at Nationals Stadium.

Smithsonian Natl Zoo: Meet Kavi, An 11-year-old Sumatran Tiger

There’s a new tiger in town! Meet Kavi, an 11-year-old male, from Zoo Atlanta on July 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo on Global Tiger Day.

Kavi is the newest edition to the tiger family, joining females Damai and Soyono

The Prowl around the Great Cats exhibit will over special demonstrations at 11 a.m., 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. Keepers will also talk about the daily care of the Zoo’s Sumatran tigers and how the tigers contribute to conservation efforts.

But that’s not all!

Face painting will be available for those who want to take on the tiger persona. There will also be tiger-themed arts and crafts.

Experts from the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute’s Tiger Conservation Partnership will display tools they use in the field to study tigers and other species in Asia, including radio collars and camera traps, for visitors to see and touch.

From Jake Dougherty: On July 28, 2012, Mount Vernon Triangle will welcome thousands of craft-beer enthusiasts to an unlimited tasting of over thirty specialty suds.  For only $30, guests can buy tickets to one of two sessions and sample a multitude of brews.  The first session runs from noon-4 PM, and the second goes from 5-9 PM.  Food trucks and exciting entertainment will be available all day.
