Smithsonian American Art Museum Seeking New Docents
Arts & Culture

This story comes to us from Jo-Ann Neuhaus, Executive Director of the Penn Quarter Neighborhood Association and the Smithsonian American Art Museum:

The Smithsonian American Art Museum is currently accepting applications for new docents.

Volunteer docents facilitate an engaging experience and create a dialogue with museum visitors to deepen their understanding of American art, history, craft, and culture. Docents guide visitor tours at the museum's main building and its Renwick Gallery, and also introduce the museum collection to school groups.

Future docents must submit an application and complete a training class, which will begin in 2011. An interest in American art and history is desired, and foreign language ability is a plus.

To request an application, e-mail Carol Wilson, Docent Coordinator at WilsonCL@si.edu.

There will be information sessions on Wednesday, October 13 and Wednesday October 20.  Both sessions will take place at 11:30 am.  Attendees should meet in the Smithsonian American Art Museum located at 8th and F Streets NW in the G Street lobby.
